Background: Kanda was born into a well known family in Tokyo, Japan. The country had embraced the age of space travel and became far more advanced, though still retained the beauty of ages past. There were still ancient temples and shrines, though cars had evolved into flying machines and the city had embraced the sky. On the surface lay the old, more cultural areas, though it was not surprising to find temples atop towering skyscrapers. Houses retained their traditional look, with shoji screens and tatami mats, and as the city grew skyward, more homes were built on the varying tiers to make room for more and more people.
One house in particular, atop a skyscraper in the inner city, belonged to the wealthy Kanda family. They ran a prestigious firm, which had been established generations before, and lived in peace with the other citizens. Kanda’s parents, who had taken over the firm from his grandfather, were known more for their hospitality than for their wealth, and despite their high status, they often entertained guests from far off planets.
Aside from himself, he had one older sister and a younger brother. Despite the fact his parents were often away on business, he loved them dearly, and his sister was in charge of looking after the two younger boys in their absence, so he had developed a very close relationship with her.
The day he turned fourteen, everything had shattered. He’d been away at school, arriving home to celebrate his birthday, but it was not to be. Blood stained the walls and shoji screens and his parents lay dead. It seemed his father had been impaled on a sword and his mother had died protecting his little brother. Her attempt had been in vain. His body was tightly held in her arms, but his head had been severed from his body and lay a few feet away. Tears welled in his eyes and anger boiled inside him. Even if he had learned healing spells in school, they were all useless now.
His sister was not there, so he quickly looked for her, finally finding her in the dojo fighting off the remaining soldiers. She was already badly wounded, barely able to swing a sword and defend herself, her hair had fallen from its tie and blood stained her blue kimono. She barely had time to mouth the word ‘run’ before the soldiers descended on her, tearing her kimono off and each took turns raping her. Frozen, he watched the entire scene, unable to tear his eyes away. He shook his head and summoned an ice dagger and took out two of the soldiers, using another spell to freeze their bodies and his sword to shatter them in to millions of tiny shards. If he could protect even one member of his family, he would. Of the five soldiers gathered, only three remained. Once they had finished with his sister, one soldier shoved his sword through her throat, silencing her forever.
The soldiers then turned their attention to him, blue eyes wide and tears streaming over his cheeks, and stabbed him through the side. He fell, clutching his wound, blood pooling around him. The soldiers, thinking their job done, retreated, looting the house for valuables as they went, killing any servants in their path. That had been their fatal mistake. He’d memorized each of their faces, vowing revenge on his family, and lay silently, chanting healing spells to aid his own enigmatic healing abilities.
Personality: Cold and bitter, with a hot temper and a foul mouth, Kanda is an asshole and he does nothing to prove otherwise. In fact, he likes it that way because it keeps people away. He keeps the world at a distance, remaining distrustful of the people around him. He does things his own way, and if anyone doesn’t like it, that’s their problem. There are so many things he dislikes that it would be easier to make a list of the things he does like (which would be quite short). Don’t dare call him by his first name, he hates it!
It may seem at first glance that he is simply a heartless jerk but he does have feelings, they’re just buried deep beneath the mask he presents to the world. It’s very rare to see a glimpse of those emotions, but on occasion he will show he cares in some odd fashion, and then he’ll proceed to deny it ever happened.
